Conditions, Issues and Problems We Treat With Osteopathy

Sciatica

The term “sciatica” describes the symptoms of leg pain and possibly tingling, numbness, or weakness that originate in the lower back, travel through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of each leg. Sciatica can occur for many reasons. I have had great success at relieving the pain caused by an impingement in the sciatic nerve.

Lower-Back Pain

The causes are numerous and the intensity of the pain differs from person to person. If you tend to ‘throw your back out’ from time to time, or if you experience chronic pain and/or stiffness, it’s time to have this corrected.

TMJ (Jaw Pain)

Causes pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. The exact cause of a person's TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Through manual manipulation I can relieve the pain and often increase the movement in the jaw, so that eating and dental visits are less unpleasant.

Neck Pain

Whether you sit behind a computer all day or have experienced whiplash or concussion, there is no reason to live each day with a stiff neck. Osteopathic treatments can increase your range of motion and release stiffness and aches.

Hip Misalignment and Imbalances

It is common to develop muscle imbalances around the hip. Hip-stretches, in combination with manual manipulation are part of a treatment plan to address the imbalance. For people who sit for long periods of time, hip flexors and rotators can become tight, and gluteal muscles become weak. This can affect gait, posture, spinal stability and movement patterns. This can result in back-pain and pelvic-floor dysfunction.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder (“adhesive capsulitis”), is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and eventually subside. The cause of frozen shoulder is often unknown and recovery can be a long process. Osteopathic treatments can relieve the pain and speed up the recovery time.

Osteopathy can also address the following:

  • Back pain, disc bulge
  • Shoulder pain and range of motion issues
  • Digestive issues including: bloating, IBS, Crohn’s and Colitis
